Abstract

KEY POLICY INSIGHTS: Socio-economic issues must be addressed simultaneously to agree in theoretical issues for the management of extant and new protected areas. An increase in the area covered by protected areas does not guarantee biodiversity conservation. The global development model, based on economic growth, is the major impediment to biodiversity conservation.
