Abstract

Surface waters were sampled from 36 points in the basin that includes Lake Titicaca, Desaguadero river and lakes Uru-Uru and Poopo (TDPS basin). Groundwaters were sampled from 37 wells in the TDPS basin and from 33 wells in the Aroma province. The salinity increases from north to south, being very serious in the lakes Uru-Uru and Poopo. Human influence is related to a bacteriological contamination in the area of Oruro and also to a contamination by wolfram, tin, cobalt, cadmium, nickel, antimony and lead in the rural area.
