Abstract

Idiopathic congenital adductal clubfoot is a congenital disproportion, in which the treatment is usually conservative and/or surgical, subsequently requiring the use of rehabilitation strategies. The objective was to determine the effectiveness of electrostimulation compared to neuromuscular taping in the management of postenotomized congenital adductus clubfoot in pediatric patients at the Del Niño Hospital Dr. Ovidio Aliaga Uría. Material and methods: oontrolled, non-randomized clinical trial. Patients with postenotomized congenital adducted clubfoot were included. The intervention group consisted of 11 patients, who were treated with electrostimulation compared to 11 with neuromuscular taping, in the physiotherapy service of the Del Niño Hospital from August 2023 to February 2024. Sociodemographic variables, laterality, Dimeglio score, muscle strength and complications were measured. Results: the average Dimeglio score at baseline was 8 points for both groups, after the intervention it was 5, with an assessment of the correction considered "good" in the electrostimulation group, and "excellent" in the neuromuscular taping group. In muscle strength, it increased for both tibialis anterior and peroneal muscles, with a higher score with the use of electrostimulation. Complications in both studies were minimal, considering both treatments safe. Conclusions: both treatments are effective, however, electrostimulation proved to be better in increasing muscle strength, and neuromuscular taping in improving clubfoot deformity.
