GAW/CHC Regional Station Program: Study of aerosols and gases in the atmosphere

Project Details

Description

The LFA has installed, in collaboration with six research centers in Europe and the USA, the new GAW/Chacaltaya station in December 2011. The instruments are working and collecting information about optical and chemical properties of aerosols arriving at Chacaltaya as well as concentration information of both greenhouse and reactive gases. Additionally, we are in the process of optimizing the Cota-Cota LIDAR system to try to make studies of the atmosphere, especially the boundary layer, in the vicinity of Chacaltaya. At the same time, monitoring of CO2 and CO concentrations continues at the LFA facilities. Two additional measurement campaigns are planned, one of albedo in the Salar de Uyuni and the other related to urban pollution in the metropolitan area of the city of La Paz.
